Why is palm oil sustainable?

Palm oil is the world’s most versatile vegetable oil. Besides being a widely used cooking oil, it is also found in many supermarket products, from soaps and toothpaste to chocolate and instant noodles.

 

Palm oil is extracted from the flesh and kernel of the oil palm fruit. Its popularity for cooking and as a combination ingredient arises from its diverse properties. Smooth and bland, it works too :

  • Remains solid at room temperature (to help baked goods last longer)
